Paper 7: What does ‘good practice’ look like?
The ET Sharing Excellent Practice Awards were instituted in 2001 by the ET Strategy Management Group with a view to identifying, rewarding and sharing excellent practice with computers across the life and work of schools.

Schools are assessed for the extent and quality of their integration of ICT across the curriculum, teaching and learning, professional development for teachers, school administration and management and the school’s links with parents and the community (1).

A main characteristic of successful schools is the quality of their planning for continued professional development for and through ICT. In addition, the discriminating characteristics of excellence in the award-winning schools in 2003 were:

  • the extent to which pupils demonstrated independence and creativity in their learning
  • the use of ICT to enhance the learning partnership with parents and the community, and
  • the quality of school leadership

all of which were supported effectively through ICT.
